01

The challenge

HotelHub builds technology for business travel. Booking a trip for work is a complicated task, with company policies, approvals and changing plans, and it has to feel like one product whether people book on the web, an iPhone or an Android phone.

At the same time, a steady flow of business requirements had to become interfaces engineering could build, quickly and without guesswork.

02

My role

As UX Manager, I led UX for HotelHub’s travel products. I worked with product and engineering to design the customer-facing web application and the iPhone and Android apps, from user flows and wireframes to prototypes and final interface designs.

I also supported design planning, reviews and delivery across product initiatives, balancing usability with the realities of running a travel business.

From requirement to specification

  1. 01Business requirements
  2. 02Task analysis
  3. 03Alternative strategies
  4. 04UI specifications
  5. 05Usability testing

Every piece of work followed the same path. I estimated the design tasks, ran a task analysis, explored alternative design strategies and assessed whether each one was viable. Then I wrote detailed business requirement documents and per-screen UI specifications, so engineering knew exactly what to build on every platform.

04

What it delivered

The result was one booking product across three platforms, with a clear specification behind every screen.

  • One booking experience across web, iOS and Android
  • Per-screen UI specifications for engineering
  • A repeatable path from requirement to build
